Hailing from the sunny land of Kazakhstan musician and producer Alexey Fuifanov better known as Command Strange has already become a household name for all lovers of musical side of drum and bass. Having got acquainted with jungle in the tender age of 7 it didn’t take a while for him to get into production. Developing and improving his sound and being only 16 years old Command Strange released his first tunes. Sweet melodic productions full of positive vibes equipped by beautiful soul, jazzy and funky samples quickly gained support from scene’s heavyweights like LTJ Bukem, Marky, Goldie, Bryan G, JJ Frost, A Sides, Hype, Fabio & Grooverider, Crissy Criss, Friction, Artificial Intelligence, Netsky, EZ Rollers, Bailey and others with regular airplay on BBC RADIO 1 and across plenty of web radio stations. After successful singles on Have-A-Break and Fokuz in the beginning of 2010 Command Strange unsurprisingly has been offered an album deal for Fokuz. In November 2010 «Soul Booster» LP described by Kmag as «some of the lushest beats you can imagine» saw a light of the day. Alexey continues to experiment with his sound, somewhat deviating from the usual tasty liquid funk grooves and bringing his vision of jump up, techy and new school areas that can already be seen in the published in late 2011 second solo album "Episode 91" on the same Fokuz Recordings and vinyl singles on Grid and Integral Records.
2012-2013 saw Command Strange changing a focus and broadening a spectrum of his production even more into tight new school beats with rough and nasty basslines. Releases on Horizons, Integral and V Records including a massive achievement in a form of dirty deep roller written with Artificial Intelligence for Metalheadz Platinum cemented Command Strange's position as one of the most promising and versatile producers on the scene.
Currently, being only 21 years old, Alexey has over 100 released tracks under his belt including more than 35 vinyl releases. With forthcoming releases on V Records, Horizons Music, Good Looking, Chronic, Fokuz, Integral, Eastside, Celsius, Antillectual Beats and some other labels in the pipeline Command Strange is undoubtedly a name to watch in the years ahead.
Muggsy is a liquid drum and bass DJ from South Wales in the UK. His music style is deep, uplifting, soulful and jazzy rolling drum and bass. He plays live on Emergency FM every Saturday on the Liquid Rollers Show. (7pm - 9pm Hong Kong/12pm – 2pm GMT) www.emergencyfm.com
Muggsy also produces tracks and has collaborated with his good friend and co-partner Radias (Liquid Sessions Radio). Together they made the two bootleg tracks for the Influenced EP, 'Hidden Pleasures' and 'Let Me Groove You.' This EP is free to download from Soulflex Digital which is a new up and coming UK record label focusing on the Soulful and rolling styles of drum and bass.
He has played at events such as SPY, Utah Jazz and more recently at Bassment for Magnetic Soul. Muggsy has a solo EP which is due to be released this month on Soulflex. He also has another another Collab EP with Radias coming very soon, plus another solo EP in the works. You can catch Muggsy playing for Frequency at Bassment on the 21st of September. Listen to Muggy's Drum'n Bass mixes here:
Jungle Jim aka Jimbrowski has been active on the DJ scene in HK since 2009 after moving back from Macau. Having started DJing there, his club nights and corporate gigs have also seen him in China and Thailand. All of which were under his own steam or with the Vivid Rhythms crew, Fresh & Skullcandy, Berlin and most recently Molohk. Apparently, his genre-spanning record collection has taken him hostage and declared itself sentient.
DJ Quest has been the foremost proponent of Drum & Bass in Shenzhen since 2008. He is the founder of Fresh Crew, throwing monthly events to spice up the city's underground scene with forward thinking music including drum & bass, dubstep, deep house, reggae, soul, etc. He's hosted one international act - Makoto, and tons of regional talent including Sushi Robot, Redman, Asayo, Jungle Jim, Blood Dunza and JCC.
Having founded the industrial building-based music venue, Strategic Sounds, Sert is certainly no stranger to the local underground scene. Also a member of the experimental band Afterdoom, his influences range from band music, electronic dance music to experimental sounds. Liquid drum & bass is his specialty, though he doesn't shy away from heavier sounds. He recently supported Enei as well as Lenzman and can catch him working alongside Hong Kong's bass heavyweights - Heavy HK, Magnetic Soul, Sessions and Strategic Sounds.
Phaeton has established himself as a mainstay in the Hong Kong Drum 'n' Bass scene having shared the stage with JCC, DJ Dragon, Joe Nice, Dj Zuju, Tarqeeb, Joe Syntax and Pedestrian. His eclectic sounds can be heard regularly at Heavy HK, Magnetic Soul and Sessions nights in Hong Kong.
A big thanks to everyone for supporting Dnb/Music i'nna Hong Kong!
